Anxious Days

Rabia Patel

Dark Circles around my eyes
Work through the long long nights
Couldn’t even see the starry nights.

I watched the patients brought in
A continuous stream running in.
Coughing and spluttering barely breathing.

All the nurses and doctors
Treating patients to ventilators
They held their hands
They said a prayer.

As they lost their lives
They sobbed and wept tears.
They did their best
Exhausted with no rest.

Not eating or drinking
Their protective equipment saving.
They did their best
Praying that they too won’t be laid to rest.
